It’s time to change…

It’s been over a decade where I have spent more than 80% of my time sitting and staring at a screen trying to build something for me or my clients. The primary focus of life to achieve something, do something that no one else was able to do in my family lineage. But in this rat race, I forgot one thing; “My health”. At the age of 31, I suffer from severe hypo-thyroid, my back is stiffer than a metal rod and I cannot pass a month without falling sick.

A week back when Ajit Bohra and I were taking a walk, we ended up discussing how we are good designer/developer but how bad we are at maintaining our health (He also suffers from knee pain due to weight gain and spondylosis induced vertigo). This is the point where we decided to take control and change. We decided to lose excess weight, get body fat under acceptable limits and improve overall strength. We decided to have each other’s backs in the process.

I have moved to Bhayander and am living with Ajit since the day before yesterday. Starting yesterday we have started Keto Diet to help us jump start our weight loss. We have also started walking and are aiming to achieve an average of 6km every day. Starting tomorrow we will do 90 mins of weight training at a gym. We are going to do this for next 45 days with a goal of reducing our weights by 10kg and waistlines by 3 inches and gain some muscle mass. We are not going to consume any performance enhancement drugs and will be on a vegetarian LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) Diet.

I am writing this blog post to tell the world about our activity as I want it to go out to everyone and act as my motivation every time we feel like quitting. I want to call all of our well-wishers to keep an eye on us, call us out and shame us publicly if we falter on this.

A small glimpse of what we are eating. (I know it’s not very appetizing)

Time to cut down #Keto #Diet #swasthjeevanseason2 😁

#WCUdaipur2017 😍 😍 😍

Edit: #WCUdaipur2018 is happening. Check it out here.

After a mind-numbing 15-hour train journey, I and Ajit Bohra reached the Royal city of Udaipur.

While the hotel that we stayed was below average, it was in the city centre which made it easy for us to get Uber cabs, Salons and other important things.

The pre-event speaker party was in such a beautiful place that if I would have had a girlfriend then I would have proposed her to marry me in that party. I meet some amazing people like Vachan, Hardeep, Devin, Hari, Prathamesh, Puneet to name a few. Along with good company, we were also spoilt by finger licking delicious food. The auto ride back was an extortion but every bit of it was enjoyable because of Prathamesh.

On the day of the event, as usual, we were late as we were busy finding coffee to wake us up. But it was not only us or our coffee at blame, Prathamesh too was late as usual. We reached venue to be welcomed by humble Gagandeep at the registration desk and ever smiling Amit Singh at the Swag counter. Oh that sexy paper bag of Swag, I was so much in love that I volunteered to even pick Ajit’s bag. 😋😋😋

While we were munching on delicious breakfast Vaidehi had already started her talk which was first in the day on Track 1. After our talk, I and Ajit attended some interesting talks by Rahul, Bigul, Gaurav, Amit and both the Panels. One has to agree that every talk had good content. The networking area was pretty huge and we did meet a lot of people there.

The organisation and arrangements my #WCUdaipur team was applaudable. I even tweeted to Punit, urging to hire me so that I can learn this organisation skills from him. He kept his modest stance and didn’t hire me. 😑

Right from setting up the website, designing a good brand to choosing the right combination of food and hospitality that even some of the 5 stars cannot match, WCUdaipur team was super awesome.

The after party at Arjun Baug was not only amazing but also a perfect place to meet and network. The gentleman who owned the place honoured us by sitting with us till 1:30 am and sharing a drink with us. THANK YOU, SIR.

Then the After After party started when Vraj, Shikha and Punit took us to this amazing dhaba in middle of nowhere, where we lit a fireplace and joked, talked and had a lot of fun until morning. We were even served tea by a man who behaved like an Egyptian Mummy with a very wicked smile who ignored me. 😏😏

The day after we bumped into RTCampers, Isabelle and Amit’s family during breakfast where we had a kind of Indian Joint Family reunion & breakfast. All in all, #WCUdaipur reminded me of big fat Gujarati wedding, where there are amazing people, humble hospitality, finger-licking delicious food, stomach ache inducing jokes and opportunity to meet lots and lots of great people.

Thank you team #WCUdaipur for taking this effort and bringing all these WP lovers together.

Until then Khamma Ghani.

Here’s how you can preview your Sketch designs on Android Phone

Here’s how you can preview your Sketch designs on Android Phone

Sketch has got a lot of fanfare and if you ask me personally, I love using it. While Sketch has some very robust features when it comes to assisting you to design for iOS platform, it kind of falls short at a lot of places while helping you to design for Android.

When the developers of Sketch asked their users about the views on what they can do to improve the workflow. A lot of designers responded with a request to make Sketch Mirror for Android. Sketch Mirror is an iOS-only app, which lets you preview your designs directly on devices (using some smart web sockets trickery, I think). Unfortunately, Bohemian Coding has not yet developed it for Android.

But, don’t worry. This workflow would let you preview your designs directly on your Android phones with a keystroke in Sketch. It involves a Sketch Plugin called sketch-preview by Marc Schwieterman, Skala Preview for your Mac and Skala View for your Android Phone.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can start previewing your designs on your Android devices.

Step 1: Download the Sketch Preview plugin from this link. (freeware). Download Skala Preview for Mac from this link. (freeware). Download Skala View for your Android device from this link. (freeware)

Step 2: Install Sketch Preview plugin by clicking on Plugins menu and selecting Reveal Plugins Folder. Unzip your Sketch Preview plugin files and paste them in the folder that had opened by Reveal Plugins Folder command. Restart Sketch. On the restart, you will get 2 new options in Plugins menu. a) Preview b) Preview Setup. Read the documentation on the plugin page to get an in-depth understanding of Preview Setup.

Step 3: Install Skala Preview on your Mac and Skala view on your Android device

Step 4: Connect Skala Preview and Skala View. To do this make sure that your Mac and Android devices are on the same wi-fi network. In your Skala view on your Android device, click on the monitor/tv icon and select your Mac. When you do that you will be prompted to authorize the device on your Mac in Skala Preview app. Approve the authorization.

Step 5: Preview your design on your device by selecting the artboard that you want to preview and pressing ⌘P. This will push your artboard to Skala Preview on your Mac, which will sync it with your Android device. Every time you update your design, press ⌘P and see the live preview of your updated design on your device.

At times there are problems in syncing the designs between Mac and Android device. If this happens with you, just go ahead and click on monitor/tv icon again on your Android device and select your Mac again and everything should work just fine.

If you have a better workflow to preview designs on Android, please feel free to share as a response to this story.
